Top 20 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh (2026 Guide)

yoga

A good 200-hour yoga teacher training (YTT) in Rishikesh costs roughly $1,000 to $1,700 for about 24 to 28 days, includes lodging and meals, and ends in a certificate that lets you apply to Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200. This guide compares 20 schools on location, price, styles, credentials, and what past students say, using each school’s own pages and public review sites checked in October 2026.

Rishikesh, on the Ganges in the Himalayan foothills in Uttarakhand, has hundreds of schools. That is the problem: the listings look alike, most claim to be “the best,” and a poor choice can cost you a month and a large share of your savings. We wrote this guide to help you narrow the field, not to promise a perfect school.

How the list is ordered. Himalayan Yoga Association is placed first as the editor’s featured pick. Schools 2 to 20 are listed in no particular order, so their position does not signal rank. If this article is sponsored or placed by a school, say so here before publishing. Readers and search engines trust pages that state this plainly.

What this guide is not. We have not trained at these schools, and we have not inspected every campus. Everything below comes from published listings, school websites, and review pages. Prices change by batch and season, so treat every figure as a starting point and confirm it with the school before you pay a deposit.

How we chose these schools

We looked for schools that publish a 200-hour program in Rishikesh and could be checked against more than one public source. For each school we recorded six things:

  1. Credentials. Whether the school says it is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School (RYS 200), and whether it names other certifications such as ISO 9001:2015. These are the school’s own claims until you confirm them in the Yoga Alliance directory.
  2. Location. The address or area given on its listing, such as Tapovan or Laxman Jhula.
  3. Program details. Course length, styles taught, batch size, and listed dates.
  4. Price. The fee shown on a listing, with the room type and year, because rates change.
  5. Teachers. Names and credentials when the school publishes them.
  6. Student feedback. Ratings and reviews on third-party sites such as Trustpilot and BookRetreats, read with care. A small number of reviews is weak evidence.

Where a school’s public information was thin, we say so in its entry instead of filling the gap. Please check the school’s current website, its Yoga Alliance profile, and recent reviews before you book.

1. Himalayan Yoga Association (Himalayan Yoga Ashram)

Himalayan Yoga Association, run by founder Himanshu Joshi, is our featured pick for a multi-style 200-hour course in Rishikesh: a residential campus with small batches, a published faculty, and credentials you can check yourself. It describes itself as a school that has operated in Rishikesh since 2018, and says it has taught students from more than 50 countries.

What you study. The 200-hour program covers asana, pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy, anatomy, alignment and adjustment, and teaching methodology. Its recommended reading includes Yoga Mala, the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, The Heart of Yoga, and Light on Yoga. Course manuals are digital PDFs, and mats and bedsheets are provided.

Teachers. The school lists 10 to 12 teachers. Examples from its faculty page include Yogini Subhashini, who holds a master’s in yogic science and a 500-hour certification and teaches anatomy, and Yogi Aman, who leads Ashtanga Vinyasa, adjustment and alignment, and teaching methodology. Always ask who will teach each module in your batch.

Campus and daily life. Students stay on campus in private or two-person rooms with attached bathrooms. The grounds include a swimming pool, a garden, a rooftop practice area, an on-site Ayurvedic spa, and a cafe. The school says the campus is about 250 meters from the Ganges. Three vegetarian meals a day are served in the sattvic tradition, and eggs, alcohol, and smoking are not allowed on the premises. Sunday excursions listed by the school include a sunrise visit to Kunjapuri Temple, a trek to Neer waterfall, and meditation at Vashishtha Cave.

Credentials you can verify. The school links to its Yoga Alliance public profile. Before booking, open the Yoga Alliance directory yourself and confirm that the school holds RYS 200 and that your batch’s lead trainer is listed.

Reviews and policies to read first. Trustpilot showed a 4.5 TrustScore from 12 reviews when we checked. Most are positive, but at least one review is strongly negative, and the school has replied publicly. Read recent reviews, not just the average. Fees are non-refundable, and each student may reschedule once.

Best for: students who want a structured, campus-based course with amenities on site and a mix of Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa.

Consider: if you want a small, quiet, family-run ashram feel, ask how many students share each batch and how the campus handles noise and crowds in peak months.

Schools 2 to 20 (listed in no particular order)

The numbers below show list position only. They do not rank quality. Prices are the ones shown on each school’s listing for the batch dates named, and they change.

2. Moola Yoga Rishikesh

Moola runs a 22-day, 200-hour program at Aroha by Rishikesh, on Trinetra Road near Laxman Jhula in Kirmola Village. Its listing shows €1,300 for a shared air-conditioned room and €1,600 for a private one (March 2026 batch), with €200 off if you book 90 days ahead. The course blends Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa and leads to Yoga Alliance RYT 200 eligibility, according to the school. The lead teacher listed is Aayush Sharma, who says he began Ashtanga at age 13 and studied in Mysore. Weekend excursions are included. Best for: students who want air-conditioned rooms and a shorter course.

3. Nirvana Yoga School

Nirvana is a large school with several 200-hour tracks: a standard multi-style course, Ayurveda and yoga, meditation and yoga nidra, and Kundalini. It also teaches 300-hour and 500-hour programs. It states Yoga Alliance USA certification. Trustpilot lists about 60 reviews, and BookRetreats reviewers praise the alignment, anatomy, and Ashtanga teaching. One reviewer notes that several programs run across two or three buildings, so ask about the actual size of your batch. A BookRetreats listing mentions an acro or aerial yoga session and free lifetime access to an online 200-hour course. Best for: students who want to choose a specialty track.

4. Rishikesh Yoga Teacher Training Center

Its faculty list is unusually specific: Sanjeev Semwal (E-RYT 500, RPYT, YACEP), Acharya Vinay (E-RYT 500, YACEP), Kalpendra Chauhan (E-RYT 200), and Anil Rayal (E-RYT 200). 5. Akhanda Yoga Institute

Akhanda teaches in the Akhanda tradition under Dr. Yogrishi Vishvketu, who is described as holding a PhD in yoga and an All India gold medal in yoga. The in-person 200-hour immersion is held at the Akhanda Sri Jungle Ashram in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, with transport from Rishikesh, so it is a retreat in the hills rather than a stay in Rishikesh town. The listing says participants must also complete a 100-hour online preparation course before arrival. Best for: students who want a remote ashram setting and a single lineage.

6. Samadhi Yoga Ashram

Samadhi is behind the police station near Laxman Jhula. Its February 1 to 25, 2027 batch lists four room options: $1,690 private, $1,390 for two sharing, $1,090 for four sharing, and $990 for six sharing. 7. Arogya Yoga School

Arogya offers a 200-hour Hatha and Ashtanga course and states Yoga Alliance USA certification. Best for: students who prefer a traditional Hatha and Ashtanga syllabus and are willing to verify the details first.

8. Pyramid Yogshala

Pyramid Yogshala’s 28-day, 200-hour course focuses on traditional Hatha, Kundalini, and Ayurveda. Batches start on the 1st and the 15th of each month. 9. Om Shanti Om Yoga School

Om Shanti Om is on Balaknath Road in Tapovan, near the Balak Nath Temple. Its 200-hour course typically runs 25 days, and the school says graduates receive a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certificate that lets them register as an RYT 200. A second listing describes the Hatha component as based on the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and the school adds Ayurveda training to the course. Best for: students who want a traditional Hatha syllabus in the Tapovan area.

10. Sri Yoga Ashram

Sri Yoga Ashram says it is managed by a Hindu family and states Yoga Alliance USA certification. Its 200-hour options include Kundalini and Hatha, Ashtanga and Hatha, and Astrology and Kundalini, each about 25 days. BookRetreats shows 26 reviews for the host, and one reviewer describes an intimate ashram where the teaching exceeded expectations. A small review count is limited evidence, so read the recent ones. Best for: students drawn to Kundalini or a family-run setting.

11. Vinyasa Yoga Academy

Vinyasa Yoga Academy lists a 25-day, 200-hour course in Tapovan near the Ganges. Its June 1 to 25, 2026 batch was priced at $1,390 for a shared room and $1,690 for a private room. The curriculum covers Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa, plus pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy, Ayurveda, and teaching methodology. Best for: students who want a Vinyasa-leaning multi-style course.

12. Maa Ganga Yogashala

BookRetreats lists a 23-day immersive 200-hour program at Maa Ganga Yogashala in Rishikesh. The public listing we saw gave few other details, so ask the school for its address, batch size, teacher names, current fee, and Yoga Alliance registration number before you decide. Best for: students willing to do extra due diligence.

13. Buddha Yog Peeth

Buddha Yog Peeth is on Balaknath Road in Upper Tapovan. Best for: students who want a Tapovan location and published credentials to check.

The syllabus covers Hatha and Ashtanga Vinyasa, alignment and adjustment, yogic anatomy, philosophy, mantra, kriyas, mudras, bandhas, and a full Ayurveda component that links diet and constitution to personal practice. Best for: students who want a clear published price and Ayurveda in the syllabus.

15. Rishikul Yogshala

Rishikul Yogshala runs a 24-day, 200-hour course in Hatha and Ashtanga, with pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy, and teaching methodology. Students are served sattvic meals and taught by Indian teachers. Best for: students who want a Hatha and Ashtanga core with an established registration history.

16. Abhyantara Yoga

Abhyantara describes a holistic 200-hour course that combines asana, pranayama, and meditation with study of the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita. The batch we saw ran January 1 to 24, 2026, so dates and prices will have changed. Ask for current dates, batch size, and the Yoga Alliance registration. Best for: students who want philosophy to be central.

17. Hariom Yoga Vidya School

Hariom Yoga Vidya School lists an address at Aviral Ganga, Laxman Jhula Paidal Marg, Tapovan. Its multi-style 200-hour course covers Hatha, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Kundalini, meditation, pranayama, and philosophy, and it describes the certificate as Yoga Alliance accredited. The listing we found was on a general event page rather than the school’s own site, so confirm everything on the official website. Best for: students who want Kundalini included in a multi-style course.

18. Mimamsa Yoga School

Mimamsa lists a 28-day, 200-hour holistic course. BookRetreats reviewers describe finishing a first 200-hour training there in December and call it a beautiful experience. We found little else in public listings, so ask for the syllabus, teacher names, fee, and Yoga Alliance registration. Best for: first-time trainees who want a longer 28-day pace.

19. Rishikesh Yoga Ashram

Rishikesh Yoga Ashram describes itself as a Yoga Alliance (USA)-registered school in the Himalayan foothills near the Ganges. Its programs combine Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, Ayurveda, and mantra. Trustpilot shows only three reviews, which praise the teaching, the upkeep of the premises, and the location. That is too few to judge from, so treat the rating as a hint, not a verdict. Best for: students who want a smaller school and will check recent feedback themselves.

20. Rishikesh Nath Yogshala

Several BookRetreats reviewers recommend Rishikesh Nath Yogshala after completing its 200-hour course. Public listings gave few program specifics, so request the syllabus, daily schedule, fee, and registration details in writing. Best for: students who value peer recommendations and will confirm the details directly.

How to choose a 200-hour course: a buyer’s guide

A school’s own website is a sales page. Use it for dates and prices, then check the claims that matter somewhere else.

What Yoga Alliance actually requires

Yoga Alliance is the main international registry for yoga teacher training. A school it registers as an RYS 200 must deliver a 200-hour foundational program, and graduates can then apply to Yoga Alliance for the RYT 200 designation. Under the credential Yoga Alliance launched in February 2020, all 200 hours count as classroom hours, and up to 40 of them may be taught online. Lead trainers must hold the E-RYT 500 credential and, per a summary in Yoga International, teach at least 150 of the 200 hours. Yoga Alliance also limits instruction to 14 hours a day. These rules give you concrete things to ask about.

Two points often confuse buyers. First, a school certificate and a Yoga Alliance registration are different things: the school issues the first, and you apply for the second. Second, “Yoga Alliance certified” is a loose phrase. The accurate wording is “Registered Yoga School” (RYS), and you can look it up.

Seven questions to ask before you pay

  1. What is the school’s RYS number, and can I see it in the Yoga Alliance directory?
  2. Who are the lead trainers, and do they hold E-RYT 500?
  3. Which of the 200 hours are in person, and which are online?
  4. What is the maximum batch size, and how many students are in the current batch?
  5. What does the fee include: meals, laundry, excursions, books, mats, the exam, and the certificate?
  6. What is the refund and rescheduling policy in writing?
  7. Can I speak to two recent graduates, not only read testimonials?

Red flags

  • A promise that everyone passes whatever their attendance or skill
  • Prices far below the market with no explanation of what is cut
  • A refusal to name the teachers or the Yoga Alliance registration number
  • Pressure to pay a large deposit within hours
  • Reviews that are all five stars, all recent, and all in similar wording

Style, season, and fit

Hatha and Ashtanga emphasize traditional sequences and are common in Rishikesh. Vinyasa is more flowing and dynamic. Kundalini and Yin each have specialized schools. If you are unsure, a multi-style course is a safe base, and you can specialize later. Rishikesh is cooler and wetter in some months and hot in others, so ask the school how the rooms are heated and cooled in the month you plan to come, and confirm Indian visa rules on the government’s official visa portal.

How much does a 200-hour course in Rishikesh cost?

Listed fees for the schools that published a price range from about $990 to $1,690, and most of the spread comes from the room you choose. The table shows the figures we found, each in the currency and for the batch the school listed.

School Listed fee Batch or note
Samadhi Yoga Ashram $990 to $1,690 Feb 1 to 25, 2027; six-share to private room
Yoga Ayurveda School $1,199 Program price
Rishikul Yogshala From 1,200 24-day course, 2026 batches; currency as listed
Moola Yoga Rishikesh €1,300 to €1,600 March 2026; shared to private AC room
Vinyasa Yoga Academy $1,390 to $1,690 June 1 to 25, 2026; shared to private room
Himalayan Yoga Association $800 to $2,500 Range across its courses; ask for the 200-hour rate

What the fee usually covers. Most listings include tuition, shared or private lodging, three vegetarian meals a day, course materials, and weekend excursions. Always ask what is excluded. Himalayan Yoga Association, for example, lists meals outside its menu as extra.

What it usually does not cover. Budget separately for flights, the Indian visa, travel medical insurance that includes evacuation, spending money, and any private sessions or spa treatments. Some schools ask you to pay the balance in cash on arrival, with rules on the condition of banknotes, so ask how and when the balance is due.

A note on very cheap courses. A low fee is not a red flag by itself, since many Rishikesh schools charge modestly. It becomes one if the school cannot show its registration, names no teachers, or crams extra hours into a shorter schedule than Yoga Alliance allows. Compare price per teaching day and what lodging you actually get, not the headline number.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh? Most residential courses in this guide run between 22 and 28 days. Moola lists 22 days, Yoga Ayurveda School and Rishikul Yogshala list 24, Samadhi and Vinyasa Yoga Academy list 25, and Rishikesh Yoga Teacher Training Center lists 28.

Do I need experience to join? Many schools accept beginners and intermediate students. Pyramid Yogshala, for example, says its course is for both groups. Ask the school what level of regular practice it expects and whether you will be asked to demonstrate postures.

What is the difference between 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour training? The 200-hour course is the foundation. A 300-hour course is advanced training taken after a 200-hour one, and the two together lead to the RYT 500 designation. A 500-hour program is a combined path.

Can I teach anywhere in the world after completing it? Your school certificate lets you apply to Yoga Alliance for RYT 200 registration if the school is a Registered Yoga School. Studios and employers set their own requirements, so a certificate opens doors but does not guarantee a job.

Can part of the course be online? Yes, under Yoga Alliance’s current 200-hour credential, up to 40 of the 200 hours may be taught online. Ask the school which parts of its course, if any, are online.

What food should I expect? Most residential schools serve vegetarian, sattvic meals. Himalayan Yoga Association, for instance, serves three meals a day and asks students to report allergies in advance. Tell any school about dietary needs before you book.

When is the best time to go? Schools run batches through most of the year. The weather is different in each season, so ask the school about heating and cooling in your month, and confirm the room type that comes with your fee.

What if I need to cancel? Policies vary and are often strict. Himalayan Yoga Association states that fees are non-refundable and allows one reschedule per student. Get any school’s policy in writing before you pay a deposit.

How do I check a school’s Yoga Alliance registration? Search for the school name in the Yoga Alliance online directory and confirm that it holds the RYS 200 credential. If you cannot find it, ask the school for its registration number and check again.

Final thoughts

The right 200-hour course is the one whose teachers, credentials, schedule, and living conditions you have checked yourself. Shortlist three schools from this guide, ask each the seven questions above in writing, and compare the answers. Verify each school’s Yoga Alliance registration in the official directory, read recent reviews rather than the average score, and book only when the fee, inclusions, and refund terms are in writing. Details in this guide were collected from public pages in October 2026, and schools change their dates, fees, and faculty often, so confirm everything with the school before you pay.
